Vaccaro, der am 20. Dezember diesen Jahres 90 Jahre alt wird, ist hierzulande insbesonders f\u00fcr seine Fotografien aus dem <a title=\"Zweiter Weltkrieg (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zweiter_Weltkrieg\" target=\"_blank\">Zweiten Weltkrieg <\/a>und der Nachkriegszeit bekannt: Seit 1944 k\u00e4mpfte er seit der <a title=\"Operation Overlord (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Overlord\" target=\"_blank\">Landung in der Normandie<\/a> in Europa. Bis 1949 fotografierte er im Nachkriegsdeutschland, u.a. f\u00fcr <em>Weekend<\/em>, eine Beilage der Zeitschrift <em><a title=\"Stars and Stripes (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stars_and_Stripes_(Zeitung)\" target=\"_blank\">Stars and Stripes<\/a>. <\/em>Nach seiner R\u00fcckkehr in die USA arbeitete er als Fotograf f\u00fcr die Magazine <a title=\"Life (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Life_(Magazin)\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Life<\/em><\/a>, <a title=\"Look (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Look_(American_magazine)\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Look<\/em><\/a> und <em>Flair.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>1926 zog die Familie Vaccaros zur\u00fcck in ihre italienische Heimat nach <a title=\"Bonefro (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bonefro\" target=\"_blank\">Bonefro<\/a>. Nach dem Ausbruck des Zweiten Weltkriegs fl\u00fcchtete die Familie wieder in die USA. 1942 kaufte sich Vaccaro seine erste Kamera, eine <a title=\"Argus C-3 (Wikipedia)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Argus_C3\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Argus C-3<\/em><\/a>. W\u00e4hrend seiner Jahre in Europa erstellte er mehr als 10.000 Aufnahmen, deren historisch-dokumentarischer Wert fasziniert.
