Conference: Central and Eastern Europe after the First World War

From 31 January until 2 February 2018, the academic conference “Central and Eastern Europe after the First World War” will take place at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic. Various presentations will address this highly interesting segment of post-war history.

The Embassador of the Slovak Republic, H.E. Peter Lizák, will give the welcome address, followed by the keynote speech “The Second Great War, 1917-1923” by the renowned historian Jay Winter.

The conference will be organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (Warsaw) and the German Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe (BKGE) in cooperation with the Centre for Area Studies (Leipzig University), the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (Institute of History), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Institute of Humanities, Centre of History) and Babeș Bolyai University at Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Conference languages are English and German. Participation is free of charge, but registration until 25 January 2018 is necessary due to limited seats.
