Cathy Coëz: “Back from War” (Brutto gusto Berlin)

Since 29 April 2011, Berlin-based Brutto gusto presents the impressive work “Back from War” by the Belgian artist Cathy Coëz. Born in 1968 in Grenoble (France) and living in Brussels, the artist works with earthenware and porcelain since just two years: countless objects are meticulously produced and often organically arranged by her. ”Back from War“ joins her previous abstract but highly touching reflection of war.

The individual components of “Back from War” are arranged on a length of three metres. The composition reminds of an annihilated convoy, the black colour of burnt and charred parts. In detail, their origin seems to be technical on the one hand, but also organic on the other, such as were the warriors fused with their vehicles and materiel. The chosen abstraction allows for various associations. However, a heroic return from war is impossible.

From 1 June 2011, Cathy Coëz takes part in the group exhibition ”L’Art de l’Apparence, l’Apparence de l’Art“ at Palazzo Gambara within the framework of this year’s Biennale di Venezia.
